Realflow Acknowledged as First Widely-Adopted System for Simulation of Realistic Liquids
3Dup.com - January 12, 2008 - 18:58
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has granted a Technical Achievement Award® to Victor Gonzalez, Ignacio Vargas and Angel Tena for the creation of the RealFlow™ software application, recognizing the significant contribution RealFlow™ has made to the process of making motion pictures.

The Technical Achievement Award® will be presented to the RealFlow™ developers during the Academy’s annual Awards Presentation Dinner and Ceremony which will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in Los Angeles, USA.

Gonzalez, Vargas and Tena will be honored for their hard work creating and developing RealFlow™, which has been hailed by the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee as "the first widely-adopted, commercially-available, easy-to-use system for the simulation of realistic liquids in motion picture visual effects".

Forty years

The first Spanish company to win a Technical Achievement Award in nearly 40 years, Next Limit Technologies has been a prominent entity in the national and international film industry with its fluid and dynamics simulation software RealFlow™. Major film studios such as Blue Sky Studios, Weta Digital, Walt Disney Feature Animation, and Dreamworks have been using RealFlow™ to simulate fluids in their high-end blockbuster movies including 300, Ice Age 2 (The Meltdown), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Poseidon, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Primeval.

"We are ecstatic and honored to have been awarded the Technical Achievement Academy Certificate," said Next Limit CEO and Academy Award® winner Victor Gonzalez. "This is our ultimate reward for the endless efforts, dedication and sleepless nights that we have been investing in this application for the past ten years. What started off as a vision, an idea, a small project from a Spanish company, has now grown into an Academy Awarded® and highly innovative application that is being used by the largest, most appreciated and best studios and production companies around the world. We are extremely proud of that," said Victor.

Ignacio Vargas and Angel Tena were equally pleased upon hearing the news from the Academy and decided to celebrate with champagne and -after typical Spanish custom- some slices of delicious Spanish Jamon.
